This page was last updated Oct 18, 2026.

About this port

Murkantor’s native Windows and Linux port of the original Nintendo 64 GoldenEye 007, built from its decompilation. Includes an SDL2/OpenGL renderer, widescreen and mouse/controller controls, and reads game data from the player’s own USA cartridge image.

Platform support & installation

PC

Native PC port built from the Nintendo 64 decompilation; SDL2/OpenGL renderer

Requirements

Windows capable of running 32-bit x86 programs and OpenGL; SDL2.dll is bundled. Supply your own unmodified USA Nintendo 64 GoldenEye 007 cart image (.z64/.v64/.n64) in Data beside ProjectMidas.exe. Source build uses Docker/WSL and the documented USA ROM SHA-1.

Sources

Work in progress. This release loads the stock USA cart only; co-op, netplay and mod loading are still in development. Release notes report settings and rendering fixes, but complete gameplay and broad device coverage are not established by the checked evidence.

Linux

Native PC port built from the Nintendo 64 decompilation; SDL2/OpenGL renderer

Requirements

32-bit-capable Linux with 32-bit OpenGL and glibc at least as new as the package requires; SDL2 is bundled in v1.0.1. Supply your own stock USA N64 GoldenEye 007 cart image in Data. Linux archive runs ProjectMidas; the separate Steam Deck archive includes run.sh. Restore executable permission if needed.

Sources

Work in progress; co-op, netplay and mod loading remain in development. Some systems draw blank triangles; maintainer documents GE_FULLHEIGHT=0 GE_EDGEINSET=1 as a workaround. Older SteamOS may lack the required glibc; exact packaged minimum was not inspected. v1.0.1 documents Wayland keyboard and bundled-SDL fixes; broad gameplay/device coverage is unverified.
